stuff that matters #3

Number 3!
Childhood.
And, parents’ roles in protecting it. I feel very strongly that this is one of my most important tasks–to create an environment and life for my kiddos that exemplifies “just being a kid.” Watch this!
I’m trying, Sage Man. I have to agree with Zach about TV. We’re down to no cable, and I’m wondering if that’s enough. Though, Madagascar is really, really hilarious…
Waddya think? Not just media–where do you stand on the consumerism bit? Is it all too much to handle? Not a biggie?

Adam and I have only basic cable and it’s very rare for us to watch it. We used to watch a whole lot of tv, and over time became more convicted about the morals (or lack thereof) we were seeing portrayed in ever so-called family shows. We started watching less and less, and the less we watched, the more we became aware about how desensitized we’d become. About consumerism, I agree that staying away from lots of tv/commercials really helps to not feel like you “need” so much. I hope to protect my kids from these kind of influences now and as the get older…man is this going to be hard, though.

Cool. And tied to my bit about wasting time, today–those are the times that remind me how easily I drown out the still small voice.
And yeah–quite a road ahead on helping the kiddos have an environment free from the droning bees and the blaring sirens!
